Volunteering with the Sexual Assault Centre Kingston offers you a unique and rewarding opportunity to join other compassionate individuals committed to working towards the prevention of sexual violence. Our volunteer program is flexibly designed, allowing you to be as active and involved while working around your schedule. Our vital services remain available as a result of compassionate and empathetic volunteers, like you! Our 24 hour, 7 days a week Crisis and Support Line provides confidential and non-judgmental support for survivors. We offer information, support and coping strategies for survivors of all gender identities. The Crisis and Support Phone Line covers: KFL&A, Quinte and Area, Cornwall and Area, North Bay and Area, Ottawa and Area, and Niagara and Area. The number of crisis calls received continues to rise, demonstrating the ongoing need for after-hours support during evenings and weekends. This service is available because of our compassionate volunteers, many of whom are survivors themselves.

Crisis and Support Volunteer

Dates and Times

As a volunteer with us require a commitment to the centre for a minimum of 6 months. We require all volunteers to take 3 shifts per month, the average shift ranges between 4 and 5 hours. You are responsible for self-scheduling and signing up for shifts to meet this requirement, this allows for maximum flexibility with your schedule.

Required Qualifications

- Must have a connection to KFL&A Region - Access to good cellular and internet service - 18+ years of age - Be able to commit to 3 shifts per month (~12-15 hours total per month) - Not currently a counselling client of SAC Kingston, or have not been a client for a minimum of 1 year All applicants, aged 18+, regardless of gender, are welcome to apply; however, please note, that we do ask all applicants to ensure they have a connection to the KFL&A region.

Position Responsibilities

As a Crisis and Support volunteer, you are responsible for signing up for 3 shifts per month for at least 6 months. You sign up for these shifts based on your own schedule, this offers you flexibility in when you want to take shifts! You will be providing crisis support to survivors in 6 different regions across Ontario, this support could look like but is not limited to: resource referrals, grounding and coping techniques, emotional support, empathetic listening, and assisting with reporting.
