Dress for Success Kingston is seeking a dedicated volunteer with a legal background to join our Board of Directors. This role is ideal for a professional who is passionate about women’s empowerment and wants to use their legal expertise to support a local organization making a meaningful impact. As a board member, you will help guide the strategic direction of the organization, ensure compliance with relevant laws and governance standards, and contribute to key decision-making processes.

Board Member - Legal

Dates and Times

Approx. 4–6 hours per month Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings

Required Qualifications

Key Responsibilities: - Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings - Provide legal insight and guidance on matters related to contracts, risk management, policies, and nonprofit governance - Help review or draft organizational documents such as policies, agreements, or memorandums of understanding - Ensure the organization operates in accordance with applicable legal and ethical standards - Support the board in fulfilling its fiduciary and oversight responsibilities - Participate in committee work or special projects as needed Ideal Candidate: - Holds a legal degree or designation (e.g., LLB, JD) and has professional experience in a relevant legal field (corporate, nonprofit, employment, or similar) - Understands nonprofit governance and/or is willing to learn - Demonstrates a passion for community service and women’s empowerment -Can commit time to support the board's work consistently and collaboratively
