Grief and Bereavement Support Volunteer

Location

Volunteers provide emotional support to clients who may be caring for someone with a life-limiting illness or grieving the death of someone significant to them. Volunteers co-facilitate open and closed groups and / or one to one visits while being supported by staff from Providence Care Hospice. Full training is provided.

Dates and Times

The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with the volunteer around the volunteer's schedule and availability.

Required Qualifications

• Compassionate, caring, patient • A strong interest in hospice palliative care • Strong communication and interpersonal skills • Resourceful, creative, curious • Having lived experience as a caregiver or bereaved person, as asset • Ability to use public transportation or access to a vehicle is an asset • Medical clearance required, including TB testing • Vulnerable sector check • Ability to speak additional languages considered an asset • Willingness to travel to Wolfe & Howe Island, Amherstview, and Kingston East is an asset

Position Responsibilities

• Develop meaningful connections with clients while companioning with them through their grief • Observe for changes in client status and report any concerns to Grief and Bereavement Coordinator • Submit a report to the Grief and Bereavement Coordinator after each visit • Maintain privacy and confidentiality of all client-related information
