Accessibility and/or Disability Supports
Applications Closed

We look very forward to welcoming a Volunteer Tutor to the Ongwanada Team!! Bring your enthusiasm for helping others learn and to thrive, as you tutor a young adult who has a developmental disability in regards to the use and value of money and reading and writing skills. Designated staff have great ideas to share with our new Volunteer Tutor re: making this learning experience fun and down to earth (relatable) for both the volunteer and the individual.

  • Suitable For: All Ages

Dates and Times

1-2 hours per week on a consistent weekday at a consistent time, during the hours of 9:00 am & 3:00 pm.

Required Qualifications

Required is the enthusiasm and desire to help another build their confidence in skills that help them thrive in everyday life. Also required is a gentle and supportive approach in helping another learn and build on their existing skills. Patience is very much required as well. A volunteer with a teaching or tutoring back ground would be an asset but not required.

Position Responsibilities

Our new Volunteer Tutor will spend 1-2 hours per week (a consistent day and time between 9:00 am & 3:00 pm on a weekday) with the young adult at a Kingston Ongwanada site. This weekly time will be spent tutoring the individual using techniques/ideas offered by staff, by the individual themselves (voicing what works well for them) and by incorporating the volunteer's ideas as well.

Volunteer Benefits

Our new Volunteer Tutor can learn or build upon their skills of gauging their teaching approach to fit one individual's specific mode of learning. The Volunteer Tutor will gain reward and satisfaction by witnessing the individual gain new skills and confidence as a result of the tutoring sessions.
